Dr. Gordon Chang received his Ph.D. in 1989 from the University of Toronto, Department of Physiology and Institute of Biomedical Engineering where he received a research fellowship award from The Hospital for Sick Children to research cell adhesion, biomaterials and blood material interactions. Later, as a post-doctoral fellow at the department of Clinical Chemistry at Toronto General Hospital Dr. Chang led research in antioxidants, free radical chemistry and oxidative injury.

He founded Omega Alpha Pharmaceuticals Inc. in 1992, and established Alpha Science Laboratories in 1997. Dr. Chang has earned awards, accolades and the enduring respect of his peers for producing innovative and efficacious herbal-based and nutritional supplements for the natural health industry. He has been a guest lecturer at the Canadian College of Naturopathic Medicine since 2000 and has conducted numerous speaking engagements and broadcast media appearances at professional trade shows and consumer events speaking on market trends, nutritional supplementation and physiology for human health, equine health and pet health.

Product Formulation

All ASL products are created by our scientific team, headed by our CEO, Dr. Gordon Chang, PhD, in consultation with naturopathic doctors, registered nutritionists, researchers and other scientific community. Dr. Chang’s formulations are manufactured at our 30,000 square foot facility in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. ASL uses only the highest quality and tested ingredients to manufacture safe and effective nutraceuticals.

Per regulations governed by a division of Health Canada, (the NNHPD or Natural and Non-prescription Health Products Directorate), we submit all information relating to the manufacture and sale of our products to the NNHPD for their evaluation and review to obtain approval for sale and an NPN (Natural Product Number), similar to the DIN (Drug Identification Number) required by pharmaceutical drugs.

Health Canada is currently evaluating all natural products manufactured and sold in Canada and Alpha Science Laboratories has fully complied with this legislation to ensure the safety and efficacy of our products.

Best Quality Ingredients

Alpha Science Laboratories uses only ingredients where scientific research has proven the ingredient is reliable and effective for its stated purpose. Dosages are per available scientific research and NNHPD/Health Canada recommendations for dosage.

We source ingredients worldwide, and whether an herb comes from Asia, Canada or the USA, all of our raw herbal ingredients are received in whole (not powdered) dried form so that we can visually verify the herb. We source from a variety of suppliers where we have established long-standing business relationships providing us with raw ingredients that are free of contaminants. All our products are made from all natural ingredients so there may be batch differences in colour and taste. All our capsule products are vegcap^TM (hypromellose).

Product Testing

In our own on-site laboratories, we test all ingredients and formulations before, during and after manufacturing and packaging to ensure there are no heavy metals, contaminants or other toxins, and we also utilize third party laboratories to verify the efficacy, safety, consistency and purity of our products.

Alpha Science Laboratories endeavours to put as much helpful information as possible on our labels and in our marketing materials for the benefit of the doctors and our consumers, and to comply with current legislation. Packaging Materials

Alpha Science Laboratories sources best quality packaging materials with the environment in mind. Our plastic bottles are 100% recyclable in most communities as we use only PETE #1 and HDPE (high density poly-ethylene) bottles. The durability of our HDPE packaging materials are tested for normal use and storage as well as microbial permeability. We use glass where feasible and caps/lids are recycled/recyclable materials. We recommend consumers reuse and recycle materials where possible as together we can all succeed in reducing waste and our “carbon footprint” and preserve our natural resources.

All products are manufactured on-site and our bottles are sealed both inside the cap and with a tamper proof outer seal for security, and to ensure the freshness of our finished products upon delivery and use.

Product labels and marketing materials are created using vegetable-based inks and recycled or recyclable paper and other material resources whenever possible.
